Canada Goose

The Riverfront Trail follows the Colorado River through town, offering an easy, 28-mile paved route for outdoor recreation and casual wildlife viewing. Along the way, visitors can enjoy river scenery, nearby parks, and convenient access from the downtown area. The trail is well suited for walking, bicycling, skating, and relaxed exploring.

I have spent much of my photography time walking this paved trail in search of birds. It is close to where I live, easy to reach, and usually fairly active at sunup, which has become my favorite time to be there. The header picture is a stylized shot of the Book Cliffs that I took during one evening’s golden hour. Between the river, the open views, and the changing light, the trail offers a beautiful setting and a good place to get to know a wide variety of birds in Colorado.

Being from Missouri, I have encountered many species here that are new to me. One of my biggest thrills is capturing an image of a bird I have never seen before, then going home and looking it up on the computer. There is nothing exotic about my outings, and most of them begin simply with a walk, a camera, and a little patience. Still, the thrill of discovery never gets old. It is one of the things that keeps me going out again and again.

What you see below is only a fraction of the images I have taken in this one place. I expect this group, along with the others in this gallery, will continue to grow as I add from my extensive collection and return to the trail in different seasons and at different times of day. I hope you will come back often to see what has been added.
